As one of only thirty women accepted to study at the Royal Academy of London in the first decade that the institution admitted women students, she would have experienced significant challenges and limitations. In 1871, however, she won a silver medal in painting, and for the next two decades, her work frequently appeared at both the Royal Academy and at the Society of Women Artists in London.
